Workshop Name: WS Option Zero ++
Hosts: Rory Whitehead (Lascells) & Donna O’Connor (SLS)
This all-day drop-in session is dedicated to physics practical work and equipment. Rory and Donna, both experienced physics technicians, will be available to answer any technical questions and offer advice and support. No booking is required, making it a flexible option for those looking to get expert insights on the go.


Chemical Storage and Stock Control Systems

Workshop Name: WS 17
Host: Chris Pambou (Islington College & Labexpert)
Chris will cover essential aspects of chemical storage, including legislation on health and safety, store requirements, specialist stores, and more. The session also includes a demonstration of the Labexpert software, showcasing how barcode scanners and label printers can enhance the role of science technicians. This workshop is scheduled to run in three sessions, ensuring multiple opportunities to attend.


Simplifying Laboratory Power Supplies

Workshop Name: WS 26
Host: Graeme Coleman (EISCO)
Designed for non-specialists, this session will help demystify laboratory power supplies. Graeme will explain power supply jargon, different ratings, and provide practical advice on selecting the right equipment for various experiments. The session concludes with a Q&A to address specific queries. This workshop is ideal for those looking to boost their confidence in handling laboratory power equipment.


Developing Inspirational Physics Practical Lessons

Workshop Name: WS 27
Hosts: Frank Campbell (ex-head of physics) & Richard Patterson (IPC Irwin)
Description: This hands-on workshop aims to enhance technicians’ practical skills and confidence in physics. Frank and Richard will cover a range of topics including Waves & Frequency, Electrostatics, Colour Mixing, Investigating Current, Radiation & Optics. With three sessions available, attendees have multiple opportunities to engage with these inspiring educators and elevate their physics teaching techniques.


How Microscale Distillation can be ‘Sustainable’

Workshop Name: WS 28
Host: Michelle Powner (DWK Life Sciences)
Michelle will compare conventional distillation equipment with microscale approaches, highlighting the benefits of using fewer chemical reagents, reducing costs, minimising waste disposal, and conserving water. This workshop is an excellent choice for those interested in making their laboratory practices more sustainable over time. Sessions will be offered throughout the day, providing ample opportunity to participate.
