Choosing a new fume cupboard can seem overwhelming due to the various models and installation options available. This guide is designed to help you select the right fume cupboard for your school lab or prep room. For personalised advice, feel free to contact your sales manager.
Fixed Fume Cupboard
Fixed fume cupboards are permanently installed against a wall within a lab and are suitable for most schools and colleges. They are available with both ducted and recirculating extraction systems.
Mobile Fume Cupboard
Ideal for smaller schools or those with limited space, mobile fume cupboards offer 360-degree visibility and can be moved between rooms thanks to their wheeled design. They feature recirculating extraction and connect to water, gas, power, and drainage through docking stations in each room.
Fume Hood
Fume hoods are compact, bench-mounted units with recirculating extraction. Additional accessories are available upon request.
Ducted Extraction
Ducted extraction systems provide 100% external extraction for a variety of chemicals. Ducting connects either to an existing system or directly to an exterior wall or roof. These units have low running costs since there are no filters to replace.
Recirculating (Ductless) Extraction
Recirculating systems use fans and carbon filters to return air into the room, suitable for standard chemicals used in GCSE and A-level labs. Filters need to be replaced periodically in compliance with COSHH regulations, with intervals displayed on the unit depending on chemical exposure.
Docking Station
Docking stations are necessary for mobile fume cupboards, providing water, gas, drainage, and power connections. They can be mounted on a wall or bench and are lockable when not in use. Quick-release connections allow for easy movement of the fume cupboard between rooms.
Semi-Mobile Ducted Fume Cupboard
Semi-mobile ducted fume cupboards can be moved up to 2 meters from the wall, offering 360-degree visibility for students. They use ducted extraction and connect to a docking station.
Sizing
Our fume cupboards are available in widths of 1m, 1.2m, and 1.5m.
Installation and Commissioning
Ducted fume cupboards require professional installation and commissioning on-site. Recirculating fume cupboards do not need installation or commissioning, though these services are available upon request.
Servicing
Annual servicing is mandatory to ensure the correct operation of fume cupboards.
